Every flame begins with a spark.
Ashline Wilde is having a rough sophomore year. She’s struggling to find her place as the only Polynesian girl in school, her boyfriend just cheated on her, and now her runaway sister, Eve, has decided to barge back into her life. When Eve’s violent behavior escalates and she does the unthinkable, Ash transfers to a remote private school nestled in California’s redwoods, hoping to put the tragedy behind her. But her fresh start at Blackwood Academy doesn’t go as planned. Just as Ash is beginning to enjoy the perks of her new school—being captain of the tennis team, a steamy romance with a hot, local park ranger—Ash discovers that a group of gods and goddesses have mysteriously enrolled at Blackwood…and she’s one of them. To make matters worse, Eve has resurfaced to haunt Ash, and she’s got some strange abilities of her own. With a war between the gods looming over campus, Ash must master the new fire smoldering within before she clashes with her sister one more time… And when warm and cold fronts collide, there’s guaranteed to be a storm.
I thought that the writer had written a very unique story. I loved following Ash as she was trying to figure out how she fit into all of this. The idea of Gods and Goddesses intrigued me. I was never one to really enjoy myths. BUT, I have come to realize lately that their stories are quite interesting.
I must say that the very first chapter had absolutely sucked me into this book. It was full of suspense and kept me wanting to read more!
Mr. Knight has created some very interesting characters. I know you are all going to say “Say What?” when I tell you this, but I loved the character of Eve! She was just rotten! A rotten sister and a rotten daughter, even just a rotten person with no regard for feelings or human life. BUT, she was one bad a$$ chickie and I loved reading about her! My favorite male character was Ade and at first, I really thought Ash and him were going to get together. I know the writer did that just to throw me off…LOL!
Okay, Ash & Colt…hmmm. I am hoping that their relationship picks up in the next book(if there will be one?)! I honestly felt like it just fell flat. At first, Colt was intriguing enough, but somewhere he just lost his mojo. I would have really liked to see his point of view. That would definitely had made it more interesting!
I did enjoy the storyline of this book! I am not sure if there would be a sequel or not. I would definitely read it if there was. Those of you that know me, know that I cannot leave a story unfinished. That is just one of my many quirks!
