Hourglass by Myra McEntire

“First of all, no one is the boss of me but me. Secondly, if you ever reference my ‘chain’ again, I will kick your ass.” I jabbed him hard in the chest with my finger. Possibly breaking it. “And thirdly, don’t call me Shorty.”
Kaleb sat silently for a second, his eyes wide as he looked at Michael. “Where did you get her? Can you get me one?”

One hour to rewrite the past . . .

For seventeen-year-old Emerson Cole, life is about seeing what isn’t there: swooning Southern Belles; soldiers long forgotten; a haunting jazz trio that vanishes in an instant. Plagued by phantoms since her parents’ death, she just wants the apparitions to stop so she can be normal. She’s tried everything, but the visions keep coming back.

So when her well-meaning brother brings in a consultant from a secretive organization called the Hourglass, Emerson’s willing to try one last cure. But meeting Michael Weaver may not only change her future, it may change her past.

Who is this dark, mysterious, sympathetic guy, barely older than Emerson herself, who seems to believe every crazy word she says? Why does an electric charge seem to run through the room whenever he’s around? And why is he so insistent that he needs her help to prevent a death that never should have happened?

Full of atmosphere, mystery, and romance, Hourglass merges the very best of the paranormal and science-fiction genres in a seductive, remarkable young adult debut.

My Review:

OMG!!! I can’t believe this book came out in June and it took me this long to read it. I had heard all the rave about it, but just kept it on my to-read pile. I decided to just pick it up over the weekend and poof!, I was mesmerized and read the whole book in one day.

The storyline was amazing! Seeing ghosts, time travel..what more could you ask for? Oh, I know…a hot guy. Well, there is actually two hot guys which becomes a tad bit of a love triangle.

Hmmm….Michael and Kaleb. I really loved them both! Michael is the brooding silent type always doing good-by everyone and staying out of trouble. The perfect gentleman. Kaleb, however is definitely a partyer and a player. Bouncing from girl to girl and always getting in trouble. so, in the end, I think that i enjoyed Michael much more!

Emerson is a good strong female lead. She suffers through a lot and she still has the strength to come out ahead. She definitely has a lot to be scared of, but actually shows no fear!

If you are a lover of paranormal romance, then I HIGHLY recommend this book! The next book in the series is due out sometime in 2012, but no date, title or cover has been released as of yet!

“I am sorry.” Kaleb grinned at me. “Sorry I didn’t meet you first.”

  1. Great review 🙂 I just reviewed this book myself not long ago and I agree that Emerson is a great character; she is very strong and mature for her age. Nice blog!
