Who is the real McLean?
Since her parents’ bitter divorce, McLean and her dad, a restaurant consultant, have been on the move-four towns in two years. Estranged from her mother and her mother’s new family, McLean has followed her dad in leaving the unhappy past behind. And each new place gives her a chance to try out a new persona: from cheerleader to drama diva. But now, for the first time, McLean discovers a desire to stay in one place and just be herself, whoever that is. Perhaps Dave, the guy next door, can help her find out.
Combining Sarah Dessen’s trademark graceful writing, great characters, and compelling storytelling, What Happened to Goodbye is irresistible reading.
Who doesn’t love Sarah Dessen? I have read a few of her books so far and they are marvelous! I actually felt like I was the last person on earth who has not read this one.
Basically, this book is about a girl trying to identify whom she really is. Her life had crumbled when her parents had divorced. She decided to stay with her Dad which led to moving a lot due to his job. In each new town, she had created a different version of herself and now has to piece back together whom she really is?
Loved the characters! They all were great! Dave is a sweetheart and perfect for our leading lady Mclean. Deb was hilarious, just because she is so quiet and timid, but had the life experience of someone totally different! Heather, Riley & Ellis were each funny in their own way too!
I really recommend this read. This is a great contemporary and it is no wonder that everyone is raving about it!
I walked over, my eyes scanning Luna Blu, my house, and Dave’s. But it was the building behind them, that empty hotel, that had the tiniest light, provided by one word, written in fluorescent paint. Maybe it wasn’t what was once there, in real life. But in this one, it said it all: STAY.
