The Summer I Turned Pretty by Jenny Han
It was a summer I would never, ever forget. It was the summer everything began. It was the summer I turned pretty. Because for the first time, I felt it. Pretty, I mean. Every summer up to this one, I believed it’d be different. Life would be different. And that summer, it finally was.

Belly measures her life in summers. Everything good, everything magical happens between the months of June and August. Winters are simply a time to count the weeks until the next summer, a place away from the beach house, away from Susannah, and most importantly, away from Jeremiah and Conrad. They are the boys that Belly has known since her very first summer–they have been her brother figures, her crushes, and everything in between. But one summer, one terrible and wonderful summer, the more everything changes, the more it all ends up just the way it should have been all along.
I had read tons of reviews on this book. I was curious as to what all the hype was about! I found it at my local Barnes & Noble and swiped the last one-off the shelf!
Do you remember your first love? Do you remember watching the one you had a crush on and noticing every move he made and then analyzing everything about him? Well, that is how Belly lives her summers. Her winters are just a time that she needs to breeze through to get to summer.
I really enjoyed the story and watching how the whole summer unfolds. There were so many things going on that it really kept the story interesting. This book was not just about Belly and her crush, it was about so much more and how they all live their separate lives, but come together during the summer and live together as a family.
All the characters were great and I felt like I really got to know them through flashbacks when Belly would relive her memories of summers gone by. The book was told through Belly’s POV, but I really would have liked to have been able to read something from Conrad and Jeremiah’s POV also. I, especially would have loved to get into Conrad’s head.
I understand why Belly was so enthralled with Conrad. I probably would have been too! But, the whole time I just kept thinking…What about Jeremiah??? He is so sweet and he is RIGHT THERE!!!
I can’t wait to start on the next book, It’s Not Summer Without You. I just cannot wait to see what happens next with this trio. So many unanswered questions are floating around in my head.
