She should not exist.

He should not love her.

Claire Brennan has been attending Emerson Academy for two years now (the longest she and her mom have remained anywhere) and she’s desperate to stay put for the rest of high school. So there’s no way she’s going to tell her mom about the psychic visions she’s been having or the creepy warnings that she’s in danger.

Alec MacKenzie is fed up with his duties to watch and, when necessary, eliminate the descendants of his angelic forefathers. He chose Emerson as the ideal hiding place where he could be normal for once. He hadn’t factored Claire into his plans. . . .

Their love is forbidden, going against everything Alec has been taught to believe. But when the reason behind Claire’s unusual powers is revealed and the threat to her life becomes clear, how far will Alec go to protect her?

Review

From the first look, this book interested me. The cover is amazingly beautiful. I love the contrast of the colors and the transparent angel wings. This is definitely a cover that will shout out to you while sitting on the shelves.

This is a tail of “Forbidden” love. Alec and Claire meet at their private school on book day. This is the day that everyone comes in before school starts to collect all your books and locate your locker. Claire and her friends notice Alec in line and decide to take him under their wing to show him the ropes at his new school. What Alec and Claire find out about each other is really the last thing that either of them expected, but it turns out to be a beautiful romance until they are told otherwise. This leaves Claire fighting for her life and Alec willing to lose his to ptotect her.

Claire’s Power

Okay, so if I was going to have a pecial power, I would definitely want it to be visions of the future, past or present. I thought this was kind of unique. All Claire had to do was touch an object or someone and she would be poofed right into a vision. The only downfall is that you are always afraid to touch something. How awkward to have a vision in the middle of talking or in a crowd.

Alec

The accent, the strong jaw line, tall, dark and handsome. Who wouldn’t love Alec? I enjoyed Alec a lot! I loved that he was willing to push aside his feelings just for Claire to be happy. If Claire wanted to be with Neil, Alec would take a step back and just let her be. A true gentleman.

Helena

Once Helena came into the picture, she was kind of predictable. I figured that she would turn out to be some key component in the book. I, however, did not guess that!

Heartbreak

One particuliar chapter was heartwrenching for me to read. I was full of pain and anguish for both Claire and Alec. I had taken on a very adament hatred for Vincent and secretly wished that I could kill him myself! Thank gosh it was only for a short period, I literally felt my blood pressure rising!

Final thoughts

This book was written in alternating POVs with Claire and Alec. I have been searching around to try to figure out if this was a stand alone (boy I hope not) or a series? I am hoping that this will be a series, I would love to read more about their budding romance and where they all go from here. The reader is kind of left on a limb and I still have LOTS of questions running through my head?

The action caught Alec totally off guard, and he froze again, his heart going wild. No one had ever hugged him before-except his parents, and that had been so long ago, he’d almost forgotten what it felt like. “You’re…welcome,” he stammered, raising his arms and awkwardly hugging her back.

She should have run. Now, she’ll have to fight.

Eighteen year old Birdie may be homeless, but she’s surviving, that is until a mysterious guy throws money in the air like a crazy game show host, and she grabs some with the idea she’ll be able to buy dinner that night.

In that singular moment, unassuming Birdie becomes the girl in everyone’s viewfinder. Thugs want to kill her. Money-guy wants to recruit her. The very hot, very rich and very out of her league, Grey Mathews, wants to save her.

Birdie, though, wants nothing to do with any of them, until she realizes fate didn’t bring them all together.

Her heritage did.

Now, with only twenty-one days left, she’s got to decide whether to follow in the footsteps of those before her or risk her life for people she’s only just met.
