Everyone dreams of that first kiss. Of that magic moment when your lips finally meet those of that special person you’ve waited your whole life for. A little awkward, a little scary, a little hot and every bit amazing. We speculate that the whole world will shake and time will just stop. No one, however, ever imagines that kiss to bring Death himself knocking.

Sixteen year old Mercy Moore’s life just got more complicated. The kiss that originally could have meant she would finally have a boyfriend now was the kiss that could have very nearly ended his life. A small detail her mother conveniently never told her will take her life for an abrupt u-turn. Dating, no love, was now completely and utterly impossible. And the boy well, that boy would never be the same.

But life, however cruel, goes on. Far too soon for her taste, Mercy finds herself at a senior party with the elite students of her school and her best friend. And of all things, playing a stupid game that could very well mean the death of someone in that small room. If it were not for her best friend, the hottest guys in school, and a small need to fit in, she may have been able to escape the disaster that was to come. Her worst nightmare, her personal curse, her very life, only gets dangerously worse.

This was my first succubus story, and a pretty decent one to start with.  The story starts with a little bit of information overload.  All of the important people are at a party, playing spin the bottle.  (Mild spoiler alert, but this is all laid out in the first couple chapters so I think you can handle the rest of this paragraph).  Mercy is afraid to play since a kiss from her can suck the life out of someone.  We are then told the story of Mercy’s first kiss.  Basically she was dating Paul 2 years ago, they kissed (she didn’t yet know she was a succubus) , and she almost killed him.  Her mom came home just in time to save him.  Mom then told Mercy that she was a succubus and could never kiss anyone.  Paul overheard but didn’t freak out, and they remained friends, although they stopped dating.  My thoughts: What?!?  Just like that her mom drops this bomb on on her with no more information and she just accepts it?  And so does Paul?  If I were Paul it would take me some time to get over that.  I would definitely be doing some avoidance of the creepy succubus girl.  But no, Paul is just like  “Ok, cool, whatevs” (not his exact words).

That’s where I started disconnecting from the book.  I know that some people really are just that passive, but I can’t accept that someone who was just given the news that they are half demon would just accept the fact that no further information is given to them, and that they are kept in the dark for their own good.  Since I’m already going off on Mercy, might as well take this time to delve into the characters.

I felt that Mercy was very slow to catch on to all of the paranormal stuff going on around her.  She seemed to be led through the book, without asking the important questions, and just making excuses for her actions.  Instead of being a strong heroine, she acted more like a confused victim.  I couldn’t connect with her.  Throughout the book all she did was bounce from boy to boy rationalizing actions she knew were wrong.  I’m not really one for love triangles, but this story was a love hexagon, which made it hard to choose a good guy to root for.  I ended up rooting for the good ones to get out of her harem.

Which brings us to the boys.  Lets meet our star players (there were more, but these are the important ones).

The boy next door.  Mercy’s best friend.  Sweet and always there for her.  He’s the smart,  good looking geek who still hangs with the cool kids.

The sweet, understanding, patient boyfriend.  Cool football player with a heart of gold.

One of the school’s hottest men.  Bad boy.  Every girl wants him, and he lets them have him.  But is there something deeper underneath?

Another hottie.  He’s the real mystery.  There’s something dangerous about him, but Mercy’s drawn to him anyway.

Final Thoughts

This was a fun read, though it wasn’t entirely for me.  The book was centered around the romance angle, with the plot revolving around it.  I love a good romance, but I want the plot to be the center and the romance to be there to make the plot pop.  For those that just want  a romantic story, this might be the book for you.

Not a YA series! Intended for mature audiences only!

When unworldly student Ana Steele first encountered the driven, damaged young entrepreneur Christian Grey it sparked a sensual affair that changed both their lives irrevocably. Shocked, intrigued, and ultimately repelled by Christian’s singular sexual tastes, Ana demanded a deeper commitment; determined to keep her, Christian agreed.

Now, together, they have more – love, passion, intimacy, and a world of infinite possibilities. But Ana always knew that loving her Fifty Shades would not be easy, and being together poses challenges neither of them ever anticipated. Ana must somehow learn to share Christian’s opulent lifestyle without sacrificing her own integrity, identity or independence; Christian must somehow overcome his compulsion to control, and lay to rest the horrors that blighted his past and haunt his present.

Just when it seems that together their love can conquer any obstacle, misfortune, malice and fate combine to make Ana’s worst nightmares come true. Alone and desperate, she must face down the poisoned legacy of Christian’s past.

Seductive, shocking, sad and funny, Fifty Shades Freed is the compelling final volume in the Fifty Shades trilogy.

Oh Fifty, Fifty, Fifty! This is the book that I had been “patiently” waiting for!! I had stayed up until midnight the day of release so that I could purchase it and start reading right away!

The book starts out with Christian and Ana on their honeymoon. Ana keeps flashing back to give us a glimpse of the planning and the wedding day itself. I don’t want to give too much away to those that still would like to read the series, so, just know that Christian is struggling in this book to keep a tight rein on his temper. Ana is testing her boundaries to see what she can get away with and what she can’t. And can I tell you that she REALLY tests them!! There were some parts where even I was like “Are you crazy?”

The ending was in my opinion..perfect. After all that the two had been through, they deserve a perfect ending! The series was very neatly wrapped up and I was left content and sighing. There is also some bonus material such as…my favorite, a scene from Mr. Grey’s POV when Ms. Steele “fell into his office”. I loved reading Christian’s thoughts!

I am very saddened to see this series come to an end! But, I have fallen so head over heels for these characters that I will be on the lookout for more from EL James! Thank you to Ms. James for creating the handsome Mr. Grey!

Series Wrap Up

Fifty Shades Of Grey

“Does this mean you’re going to make love to me tonight, Christian?” Holy shit. Did I just say that? His mouth drops open slightly, but he recovers quickly.
“No, Anastasia it doesn’t. Firstly, I don’t make love. I fuck… hard. Secondly, there’s a lot more paperwork to do, and thirdly, you don’t yet know what you’re in for. You could still run for the hills. Come, I want to show you my playroom.”
My mouth drops open. Fuck hard! Holy shit, that sounds so… hot. But why are we looking at a playroom? I am mystified.
“You want to play on your Xbox?” I ask. He laughs, loudly.
“No, Anastasia, no Xbox, no Playstation. Come.”… Producing a key from his pocket, he unlocks yet another door and takes a deep breath.
“You can leave anytime. The helicopter is on stand-by to take you whenever you want to go, you can stay the night and go home in the morning. It’s fine whatever you decide.”
“Just open the damn door, Christian.”
He opens the door and stands back to let me in. I gaze at him once more. I so want to know what’s in here. Taking a deep breath I walk in.
And it feels like I’ve time-traveled back to the sixteenth century and the Spanish Inquisition.
Holy fuck.”

“[Ana] “You’re a sadist?”
“I’m a Dominant.” His eyes are a scorching gray, intense.
“What does that mean?” I whisper.
“It means I want you to willingly surrender yourself to me, in all things.”
I frown at him as I try to assimilate this idea.
“Why would I do that?”
“To please me,” he whispers as he cocks his head to one side, and I see a ghost of a smile.
Please him! He wants me to please him! I think my mouth drops open. Please Christian Grey. And I realize, in that moment, that yes, that’s exactly what I want to do. I want him to be damned delighted with me. It’s a revelation.”

“He’s naked except for those soft ripped jeans, top button casually undone. Jeez, he looks so freaking hot. My subconscious is frantically fanning herself, and my inner goddess is swaying and writhing to some primal carnal rhythm.”

Fifty Shades Darker

“So you’re my boss now,” I snap.
“Technically, I’m you’re boss’s boss’s boss.”
“And technically, it’s gross moral turpitude the fact that i am fucking my boss’s boss’s boss.”
“At the moment, you’re arguing with him.” Christian scowls.”

“I thought I’d broken you.”
“Broken? Me? Oh no, Ana. Just the opposite.”
He reaches out and takes my hand. “You’re my lifeline'” he whispers.”

“You love me,” I whisper.
His eyes widen further and his mouth opens. He takes a huge breath as if winded. He looks tortured—vulnerable.
“Yes,” he whispers. “I do.”

Fifty Shades Freed

“You know, you’re topping from the bottom,” he murmurs against my lips.
“What?” I don’t understand what he’s talking about.
“Don’t worry. I’ll live with it,” he whispers, amused…”

“My inner goddess has her sequins on and is warming up to dance the rumba.”

Terri from My Book Boyfriend picked out this particular Christian and I have to say that he looks perfect to me!!! This pic is of Matt Bomer in case any of you were wondering.

What do you think?

We will miss you Fifty! I am sure that many of us will reconnect with you from the beginning again from time to time! I know I will!!!

  1. While I love the picspam (MATT BOMER!!!!!), I’m not a fan of books where the plot comes secondary to the romance/love triangle angle, so I think Beg for Mercy will probably be a skip for me for now. But as for Fifty…yeah, I think I’ll be checking that series out.

  2. I am not into BDSM stories, but I have to say that I really loved “Fifty Shades of Grey”! This was one of those books that keeps you glued to the pages; staying up reading into the early morning. I found it to be very addicting which is really disturbing for me.

This is the love story of Anastasia & Christian. Christian is such a complex character. You love him and hate him at the same time and it’s really confusing. He’s the ultimate alpha male, bad boy with a very dark and disturbing desire to inflict pain. He literally gets off on it. He meets and falls for Anastasia. When they meet she is an innocent college student and happens to still be a virgin. This is their love story and its deeply disturbing. Our boy Christian has some serious demons and its making Ana think long and hard about their relationship. This is not your typical boy meets girl let’s date and fall in love romance. He wants to dominate her and he wants her submissive. He comes up with a contract that he wants her to sign. She’s torn between her love for him and her fear of him. She wants to know why he is so Fifty Shades of “f’d” up. She wants to get to the bottom of what happened in his past to make him need this type of relationship and why he hates to be touched. He introduces her to the “dark side” of his sexual habits and in his desire to keep her and make her happy, tries for the “vanilla relationship” she desires. Will Ana embrace Christian’s dark side or will it be more than she can handle? The way he makes love to her is so erotic, steamy, sexy and scary all at the same time.

I know it does not sound like it, but there is a real love story in this book. Ana brings out feelings in Christian that he has never felt with anyone else. As crazy as it sounds, I have a lot of hope for these two and I am eager to read the next installment.

    Have a lovely day,

  3. Do you know what Christian means when he said to Ana in fifty shades freed “you know, you’re topping from the bottom”?? I don’t get it and it’s playing on my head….
