She fell for him in a nighttime world. But the time for dreaming is past—and the here-and-now can be just as fragile their love…
When Theia Alderson first encountered a mysterious, handsome boy in her dreams, she never imagined how finding Haden Black—and falling in love—could change her life. To save Haden, Theia sacrificed everything. And the dangerous bargain she made could have lasting repercussions.
Now Theia has returned to Serendipity Falls, and she finds herself struggling with the same deadly hungers that have tortured Haden. When students at their high school fall prey to a mysterious illness, Theia can’t help but wonder if Haden’s control is slipping—and how much longer she’ll have a grip on her own.
And still the nightmare realm of Under won’t let them go. Someone from Haden’s past is determined to destroy Theia from the inside out, starting with those closest to her, forcing Theia to choose between family and friends and a love that may have been doomed from the start…
I really enjoyed the first book in this series, Falling Under. I knew that I had to get my hands on the second book and it did not disappoint!
This book starts off with Theia returning home from Under after her friends had brought her back. She is very worried about Mara finding her and taking her back and the fact that she now has demon blood running through her veins. She worries for her friends, family and the others in her town, wandering if she could harm them. It doesn’t take long for strange things to start happening including her dreams.
The book was slow to start for me. I had to really concentrate to get into the “guts” of the storyline. The ending had definitely packed a punch and I am glad that I kept on reading.
Theia and Haden have to really work on their relationship in this installment. To read about it was heartbreaking. They both have so much loss in their pasts which carries over into their future too. I love them together! Haden, to me, is like the perfect book boyfriend. He is sweet, charming and very protective.
The other characters were just as fun as they were in the first book. Actually, I feel like I have gotten to know them better this time around. Donny and Gabe still had their bantering back and forth. Amelia was still head over heels for Mike, but started to honestly look at Varnie. Oh Varnie, what happens to you is traumatic for all of us!
Mara was at the worst that I believe we have seen her yet. The hate that I felt while reading had my blood boiling.
The ending was fulfilling and we actually got to see a glimpse at several different POV’s. I really enjoyed that part.
Here is my pick for Haden Black:
this is actually Caleb Lane
Isn’t he a hotty?
“I thought you understood. After I came for you in Under the last time, I thought you must know…but I guess I was wrong.”
“You are my life.”
