Ana is new. For thousands of years in Range, a million souls have been reincarnated over and over, keeping their memories and experiences from previous lifetimes. When Ana was born, another soul vanished, and no one knows why.
Even Ana’s own mother thinks she’s a nosoul, an omen of worse things to come, and has kept her away from society. To escape her seclusion and learn whether she’ll be reincarnated, Ana travels to the city of Heart, but its citizens are afraid of what her presence means. When dragons and sylph attack the city, is Ana to blame?
Sam believes Ana’s new soul is good and worthwhile. When he stands up for her, their relationship blooms. But can he love someone who may live only once, and will Ana’s enemies–human and creature alike–let them be together? Ana needs to uncover the mistake that gave her someone else’s life, but will her quest threaten the peace of Heart and destroy the promise of reincarnation for all?
Jodi Meadows expertly weaves soul-deep romance, fantasy, and danger into an extraordinary tale of new life.
Souls have been reincarnated for thousands of years. Except for Ana’s. She is what is a new soul, but her mother, Li, calls her a no soul. She has not had the best childhood and her mother is actually hateful towards her. So, when she turns 16, she decides to head into the town of Heart to do a little research to find out where she came from and what had happened to her.
Along her travels, she gets rescued by Sam. Sam is very sweet and loving towards Ana. She is not used to people being nice to her since her mother had just been so awful. This is my favorite part of the book, the fact that Sam and Ana do not fall in love as soon as they meet. It takes Ana a long time to feel comfortable with Sam and then she has to learn to deal with others when she gets to Heart.
I enjoyed the secondary characters as well, but just do not feel like I can trust Stef. Stef is Sam’s best friend and sometimes, she seems sweet towards Ana and other times she seems jealous. I am just not too sure about her.
I loved the writing style of Ms. Meadows. The words just flowed together and the world she had created was intriguing and interesting. I do look forward to the next book in the series due out in 2013.
“It’s difficult to focus on my studies when my best friend is struggling to get through the hour.”
He hesitated. “So I’m your best friend now?”
My cheeks heated, and I shrugged. “It was between you and Sarit, and you have the piano. She just has honey.”
I choose James Marsden for Sam, He just seems like the boy next door!
