Two years ago, Scarlet awoke in the forest alone, afraid, and unable to remember anything. Lost and confused, her life was a mystery…until she met a boy with a familiar voice.
Gabriel Archer has a voice from her past, and Scarlet’s determined to remember why. She immerses herself in his life only to discover he has a brother he’s kept hidden from her: Tristan Archer.
Upon meeting Tristan, Scarlet’s world becomes even more muddled. While she’s instinctively drawn to Gabriel, she’s impossibly drawn to Tristan–and confused out of her mind. As she tries to piece together her history Scarlet realizes her past…might just be the death of her.
O. M. G., I cannot express my love for this book enough!!! Ms. Fine has created an original and unique paranormal romance. One that introduces us to likeable characters and an interesting plot.
The story is told through 3 different POVs. Tristan, Gabriel and Scarlet. We start off with Scarlet waking up in the middle of the woods and not remembering how she got there. She cannot remember anything about herself except for her name. We than flash forward 2 years to present time with Scarlet waiting for her BFF, Heather at the kissing festival. She has been given a guardian and tried to move on with her life. The story just shoots off from there.
Okay, I need to gush about Heather a bit…NO, it is not just that our names match…LOL! She is a great BFF and gives Scarlet the strength to just live everyday. I love how she is such a fashion guru and tries to keep Scarlet dressed and looking appropriate according to her standards.. BTW, I also enjoy her use of text language…Overall, she was a wonderful addition to the story and kept me giggling! Everyone needs a Heather!
“No, you don’t. You think you can do Cute And Casual…but I’ve seen you try it and it just comes out looking…” Heather tapped her chin with a shiny fingernail. “lazy.”
Now onto the swoony boys! The Archer twins are gorgeous and both have their separate feelings for Scarlet. There is Gabriel, he is the twin with the dark brown eyes. He runs into Scarlet first and he also believes he is in love with her. Then there is Tristan, he has beautiful green eyes and he is tortured and tormented just by Scarlet’s mere existence.
So ladies, What I want to know, are you
I am definitely Team Tristan. There is just something about the bad boy whom is broken and needing to be fixed. He also is willing to give up everything to save Scarlet. He seems more brave than Gabriel and also seems to have a whole lot more self-control.
A long moment of silence passed before he answered, “I want you to have a real chance at wholeness.”
Now, once Scarlet had a memory and Tristan found what he had been looking for, the book became kind of predictable. But, up until that point, I was not sure which direction we would end up in. The ending was sad and I read the last few pages with tears in my eyes!
The next book, Awry, is coming in the summer of 2012.
