Okay, so my intention was to read the book and post a review. Obviously, that did not happen. With the new job, I have not gotten to some great books that are on my TBR list!!! BUT, I have a great interview for you with Mindy and decided to post without the review. That will come later:)
NR- Thank you for joining us here at NightlyReading. It is always so much fun to hear what the authors have to say about their books. My first question is about how you came to write your first book. Did you always want to be a writer or do you have another career also?
Mindy- I’ve always wanted to be a writer, but I knew that would have to be a backup, free-time kind of gig. For my 40/wk I’m a YA librarian, so the two definitely go hand in glove.
NR- Your book contains some very interesting characters. Did you base them on people that you know or are they strictly fictional?
Mindy- Good Lord, no. They’re strictly fictional. I think basing a character off someone you know carries a risk with it.
NR- Please share with us some of your other interests. When you are not writing, what other activities occupy your time?
Mindy- I’m an athlete, softball in particular. I also garden, and try to produce most of my own food out of that garden. I knit, although not always successfully. I read every day – it’s the next best thing to writing.
NR- What is your next project? Are you working on anything? Any other books on the horizon??
Mindy- NOT A DROP TO DRINK does have a sequel, currently titled A HANDFUL OF DUST. It’s in the editing stages at the moment. There are a handful of new ideas swirling in my head at any given moment. I just have to pin down which one I want to tackle next.
Favorite Book? THE STAND by Stephen King
Favorite Genre? Honestly, I love reading non-fiction
Favorite Author? My crit parters J
Favorite Holiday? Thanksgiving. Num.
Favorite Villian? Jason Isaacs character in The Patriot. Also num.
NR- One last quick question, if you could choose to be a character from any book, who would you be and why?
Mindy- I’d be Eowyn from The Return of the King. I really want to be the lone woman hacking off Nazgul heads.
Thank you so much for taking the time for this interview. Good luck with your book!

Regret was for people with nothing to defend, people who had no water.
Lynn knows every threat to her pond: drought, a snowless winter, coyotes, and, most importantly, people looking for a drink. She makes sure anyone who comes near the pond leaves thirsty, or doesn’t leave at all.
Confident in her own abilities, Lynn has no use for the world beyond the nearby fields and forest. Having a life means dedicating it to survival, and the constant work of gathering wood and water. Having a pond requires the fortitude to protect it, something Mother taught her well during their quiet hours on the rooftop, rifles in hand.
But wisps of smoke on the horizon mean one thing: strangers. The mysterious footprints by the pond, nighttime threats, and gunshots make it all too clear Lynn has exactly what they want, and they won’t stop until they get it….
With evocative, spare language and incredible drama, danger, and romance, debut author Mindy McGinnis depicts one girl’s journey in a barren world not so different than our own.
Not A Drop To Drink Trailer!
It’s awesome!! You have to watch it!
