To Read my review of The Darkest Minds, Go HERE!
Ruby never asked for the abilities that almost cost her her life. Now she must call upon them on a daily basis, leading dangerous missions to bring down a corrupt government and breaking into the minds of her enemies. Other kids in the Children’s League call Ruby “Leader”, but she knows what she really is: a monster.
When Ruby is entrusted with an explosive secret, she must embark on her most dangerous mission yet: leaving the Children’s League behind. Crucial information about the disease that killed most of America’s children—and turned Ruby and the others who lived into feared and hated outcasts—has survived every attempt to destroy it. But the truth is only saved in one place: a flashdrive in the hands of Liam Stewart, the boy Ruby once believed was her future—and who now wouldn’t recognize her.
As Ruby sets out across a desperate, lawless country to find Liam—and answers about the catastrophe that has ripped both her life and America apart—she is torn between old friends and the promise she made to serve the League. Ruby will do anything to protect the people she loves. But what if winning the war means losing herself?
**Review may contain spoilers if you have not read the first book**
You’ve been warned:)
“Ghosts don’t haunt people–their memories do.”
TDM left me with my head spinning and oncoming tears for what Ruby had done to Liam. I know exactly why she had done it, but I was still left an emotional wreck with
wanting needing the next book in the series like…RIGHT NOW!
Ruby has turned into quite the bad ass!
There seemed to be a total change in Ruby from the first book and into the second book. Where in TDM, we have a quiet girl whom is just trying to stay alive, to Never Fade where we find Ruby having MUCH better control over her abilities and working for the league. She has changed so much and has actually become quite bitter. The other kids at the league are scared of her and are not willing to even look in her direction. All except for her small team of cohorts whom will not let her crouch in the corner and feel sorry for herself.
Exciting new characters…
With the incoming of a few new characters, Ms. Bracken has given us even more to love about this book! Jude and Vida were among my favorites.
“And for the love of God, bitch, don’t get stabbed this time!” Vida added.”
Vida is snarky and cocky and I LOVED HER!!! I always love the quirky characters, I think because I would love to have a little Vida in myself.
“I don’t want to just see someone’s face; I want to know his shadow, too.
Jude was like the little brother that Ruby never had. He was awkward and shy and could not shut up! Seriously, he drove Ruby crazy with his need to constantly speak without taking a breath. But, she loved him anyway.
We also get a to see some of our old favorites! With the surprising reuniting of one of our favorite characters from the first book. Prepare to be shocked! (no, it’s not Liam)
Liam, Oh Poor Liam!
If you thought the ending of TDM was sad with Liam, just wait until you get to this book! Poor Liam! Ruby sets out on a wild goose chase to find Liam and I was really surprised that she did! One part of me thinks that she really wanted to find him and this was her excuse to do so and the other part thinks that if she had not had the excuse, she would never have set out to look for him….Ever!
“I think I’m losing it—I don’t know what’s happening, what happened, but I look at you, I look at you, and I love you so much. Not because of anything you’ve said, or done, or anything at all. I look at you, and I just love you, and it terrifies me. It terrifies me what I would do for you.”
That scene was heart wrenching for me! When Ruby finally meets up with him, Li is so confused! My heart really did break all over again for him.
If you loved The Darkest Minds, than you will love this book so much more! The characters are stronger and more willing to fight back! We also learn a lot more information about the government and all the characters that we were not privy to in the first installment. I cannot wait for the next book, this one was explosive, (literally) so I am curious how Ms. Bracken can out do herself yet again?
