Book of the Month: The Taking by Kimberly Derting Reviews w/Giveaway!

ARC Read A-Long

We had fun this month reading The Taking together. Here are our reviews and enter for the giveaway!!

H. Lee:

Going into this book, I was not sure if I would really enjoy it. I LOVED IT! I enjoyed the characters and the whole premise.

I loved reading about Kyra waking up and trying to put her life back together. I really felt for her and kind of had an issue with her mother. I felt that her mother just expected her to adjust to the life that they had now 5 years later.

One of my favorite parts was when Kyra sees Austin for the first time after being back. The emotions that she must have felt were a little over whelming, even for me. I feel like her feelings for Tyler will be able to help her move on from the devastation she felt by her boyfriend and her best friend getting together.

The ending was intense. We were left on a bit of a cliffhanger and I cannot wait to see where this series goes next.

I highly recommend you pick up this read! It was full of romance, action, drama and keeps you guessing from one chapter to the next. I WILL be purchasing Ms. Derting’s other books in hopes that I will love them just as much!

The Taking is engaging with plenty of excitement. Extremely fast paced, just a enough romance, wonderful presentation.

The narrative was intriguing. The reader had a sketch of the storyline, however, with every turn of the page you weren’t sure what to expect. A general outline was given and numerous twists made it exciting. Despite its SF base it isn’t overdone, the characters and their history created a suspenseful aspect.

Kyra is a lovable. You feel for her entire experience, from disappearing to reappearing her emotions are clear. The author depicted Kyra and her mental state, not to mention her surroundings spot on. So much has changed when Kyra returns, it really is affecting.

Tyler is every girls dream. What a romantic and considerate young man. He is so taken with Kyra and is incredibly supportive of her. Clearly he is Kyra’s rock during this turbulent period of adjustment. The chemistry between these two is evident and their budding romance gives the story a sweet boost. Their romance interaction is slow and paced well with the narrative. You really hope the best for these two lovebirds.

Explaining the past and present regarding Austin and Cat is sad. Life moves on and often it moves in ways unexpected. Tough for Kyra to realize two important people in her life have left her utterly surprised in a bad way. Austin and Cat gave plausibility to the emotional edge of the narrative, I liked this.

Looking forward to the second installment. I will say the first part of The Taking was good but the second part GREAT!! The second portion grabs your attention, filled with angst leaving you white knuckled of what will occur next.

Science fiction lovers should add The Taking to your TBR list.

This book had me captivated from the very first page! Kimberly Derting has a way of creating these worlds and characters that are able to pull you in effortlessly. There is not one bad thing that I can say about this book, the characters were awesome and the plot was entertaining! My favorite character would have to be Kyra, I loved reading from her point of view, she was such an amazing, strong character with a heartbreaking story. The main reason I loved her so much was because she was so realistic, the way she handled everything was just so relatable and I could see myself reacting the same way. I also truly adored Tyler! He was so sweet, and the last couple of chapters with him brought tears to my eyes, that boy is just so sweet and amazing! I just want to shrink him down and carry him around with me. This book has a strong cast of secondary characters that i’m looking forward to learning more about in the sequel! I recommend this book to everyone, it is such a fun, fast paced, freaking cool book! Definitely 5 stars from me!

A flash of white light . . . and then . . . nothing.

When sixteen-year-old Kyra Agnew wakes up behind a Dumpster at the Gas ’n’ Sip, she has no memory of how she got there. With a terrible headache and a major case of déjà vu, she heads home only to discover that five years have passed . . . yet she hasn’t aged a day.

Everything else about Kyra’s old life is different. Her parents are divorced, her boyfriend, Austin, is in college and dating her best friend, and her dad has changed from an uptight neat-freak to a drunken conspiracy theorist who blames her five-year disappearance on little green men.

Confused and lost, Kyra isn’t sure how to move forward unless she uncovers the truth. With Austin gone, she turns to Tyler, Austin’s annoying kid brother, who is now seventeen and who she has a sudden undeniable attraction to. As Tyler and Kyra retrace her steps from the fateful night of her disappearance, they discover strange phenomena that no one can explain, and they begin to wonder if Kyra’s father is not as crazy as he seems. There are others like her who have been taken . . . and returned. Kyra races to find an explanation and reclaim the life she once had, but what if the life she wants back is not her own?
