If you ain’t scared, you ain’t human.
When Thomas wakes up in the lift, the only thing he can remember is his name. He’s surrounded by strangers—boys whose memories are also gone.
Nice to meet ya, shank. Welcome to the Glade.
Outside the towering stone walls that surround the Glade is a limitless, ever-changing maze. It’s the only way out—and no one’s ever made it through alive.
Everything is going to change.
Then a girl arrives. The first girl ever. And the message she delivers is terrifying.
Remember. Survive. Run.
Please leave a comment to let us know if you will be joining in! The more the merrier!!
Review copies for the Read Along were given by the publisher in exchange of an honest review.
Discussion #1 Chapters 1-13
These first chapters introduce us to Thomas and help us get an understanding of the routine in the glade. I like Thomas, I enjoyed his character in the movie, but I am enjoying him so much more in the book. I like being able to be in his head to know his thoughts and his feelings upon arriving in the maze.
I hate the way the other characters treat the newbies, especially Thomas. They treat them like they are the enemy. I haven’t gotten to much about the new girl in the book but I CANNOT wait to read about Thomas’s thoughts on her;)
I am loving the world that has been created by Mr. Dashner and enjoying getting a feel of life in The Maze. Not sure if I could really live there myself though? I would probably go stir crazy!
Please let me know your thoughts on the first week’s reading. Whom is your favorite character so far? What do you think about the maze itself?
WOW is a weekly meme where we showcase which upcoming titles we are most excited for.
This week’s WOW is:
Illuminae by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff
To Be Published on October 20, 2015 by Knopf Books For Young Readers
This morning, Kady thought breaking up with Ezra was the hardest thing she’d have to do.
This afternoon, her planet was invaded.
The year is 2575, and two rival megacorporations are at war over a planet that’s little more than an ice-covered speck at the edge of the universe. Too bad nobody thought to warn the people living on it. With enemy fire raining down on them, Kady and Ezra—who are barely even talking to each other—are forced to fight their way onto an evacuating fleet, with an enemy warship in hot pursuit.
But their problems are just getting started. A deadly plague has broken out and is mutating, with terrifying results; the fleet’s AI, which should be protecting them, may actually be their enemy; and nobody in charge will say what’s really going on. As Kady hacks into a tangled web of data to find the truth, it’s clear only one person can help her bring it all to light: the ex-boyfriend she swore she’d never speak to again.
Told through a fascinating dossier of hacked documents—including emails, schematics, military files, IMs, medical reports, interviews, and more—Illuminae is the first book in a heart-stopping, high-octane trilogy about lives interrupted, the price of truth, and the courage of everyday heroes.
