Seventeen-year-old Stevie is trapped. In her life. In her body. And now in an eating-disorder treatment center on the dusty outskirts of the New Mexico desert.

Life in the center is regimented and intrusive, a nightmare come true. Nurses and therapists watch Stevie at mealtime, accompany her to the bathroom, and challenge her to eat the foods she’s worked so hard to avoid.

Her dad has signed her up for sixty days of treatment. But what no one knows is that Stevie doesn’t plan to stay that long. There are only twenty-seven days until the anniversary of her brother Josh’s death—the death she caused. And if Stevie gets her way, there are only twenty-seven days until she too will end her life.

In this emotionally haunting and beautifully written young adult debut, Meg Haston delves into the devastating impact of trauma and loss, while posing the question: Why are some consumed by their illness while others embark on a path toward recovery?

My Thoughts:

First off, this cover is B-E-A-utiful!!! I can’t get over how pretty it is and secretly spotted this book due to the cover specifically before actually reading the blurb!

While reading this book, I felt a whole lot of different emotions!! I was angry at Stevie for not wanting to get the help she needed. I felt a smile coming on when she was being snarky with her therapist. I also felt sadness that she was ill to begin with and when she finally broke the barrier and decided to get the help she needed!

This book was written beautifully and the reader is able to really get all the feelings that the main character of Stevie is going through right along with her. The story is easy to follow and really gets right to the heart of mental illness and eating disorders. Not only do you get a glimpse of what life is like for our main character but you get to see what is happening with the other background characters as well.

I wasn’t sure if I would enjoy this book but was pleasantly surprised that I did. This one was a non stop read for me and I was able to finish in one sitting!
