The Way Back to You by Michelle Andreani
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
This is the first YA contemporary that I have read in a long time! I really enjoyed the characters and their mission. Anyone whom knows me, knows how much I heart stories that include road trips and this was not an exception to that rule!
This book kind of had it all! Romance, laughter, tears and travel! It also included a little parent deception which is a requirement in any good YA book! I was able to feel like I was right there by the descriptions of the places that the two main characters traveled to. I had never been and I found myself wondering if such places actually exist and wanted to place some on my bucket list.
Even though the story surrounded a dark tragedy, there was still plenty of lightheartedness to be had. I loved the banter between all the characters and grew to love each of them individually. They each played a major role in the story in their own way. We even got to know Ashlyn a bit from flashbacks from each of the characters.
The whole idea of meeting people who were recipients of a friend’s organs is actually quite fascinating to me and I have to say that I am a tad on the morbid side but that is what actually drew me to read this book.
I did shed a few tears which would be impossible not to given the topic but with alternating POV’s, I really suggest this book to any YA fiction lover!
I feel it instantaneously as if this is what I’ve been waiting for all along. A steady thumping. A rhythm that is all Ashlyn’s. My best friend’s heart beating against mine. Again.
