“A line that should never be crossed is about to be breached.
It puts this entire castle in jeopardy—and the life of your friend.”
From the throne of glass rules a king with a fist of iron and a soul as black as pitch. Assassin Celaena Sardothien won a brutal contest to become his Champion. Yet Celaena is far from loyal to the crown. She hides her secret vigilantly; she knows that the man she serves is bent on evil.
Keeping up the deadly charade becomes increasingly difficult when Celaena realizes she is not the only one seeking justice. As she tries to untangle the mysteries buried deep within the glass castle, her closest relationships suffer. It seems no one is above questioning her allegiances—not the Crown Prince Dorian; not Chaol, the Captain of the Guard; not even her best friend, Nehemia, a foreign princess with a rebel heart.
Then one terrible night, the secrets they have all been keeping lead to an unspeakable tragedy. As Celaena’s world shatters, she will be forced to give up the very thing most precious to her and decide once and for all where her true loyalties lie… and whom she is ultimately willing to fight for.
Oh man, Oh man!
This book absolutely slayed me! I went from being so happy and loving the story line to my heart thundering out of my chest and sobbing!
Celaena is trying to deal with being the King’s Champion the only way she knows how. She takes her missions and completes them and just tries to focus on being finished with her time and finally being free. I still adore her character, even when she loses it. That is what makes her so human to me.
It took me until this book to figure out which love interest I liked more and I can definitely say that I am Team Chaol. I really like Prince Dorian too and feel so badly for him but I feel that Celaena and Chaol just make more sense together.
So much happens in this book and I went through every. single. emotion! I am kind of kicking myself in the rear for waiting so long to jump on the band wagon but I am here now and cannot wait to move on!
While I enjoy fantasy, I am not real big on magical elements in my stories but they are not the main focus of the story line and even though it is a big part, it is not enough to turn me off. I just kept reading and reading until I finished at 1 am.
I do not want to say too much because I encourage everyone to read this series! If you enjoyed the first book, you will enjoy this one so much more! And that ending! UGH! It was not exactly a cliffhanger but enough to make me want to crack open the next book immediately!
“I worry because I care. Gods help me, I know I shouldn’t, but I do. So I will always tell you to be careful, because I will always care what happens.”
