The Stranger & The Pleasures of Winter…REVIEWS!

The Stranger by Kyra Davis

the strangerTo be published January 21, 2013 by Pocket Star

Kasie knows who she’s supposed to be. But one passionate night with a mysterious stranger will teach her who she wants to be. You should sleep with a stranger, her best friend whispers in her ear as they take to Vegas for one last pre-wedding fling. Despite her best intentions, when Kasie Fitzgerald enters the casino and sees him, a man whose tailored clothes belied a powerful, even dangerous, presence, she loses herself to the moment. Maybe it’s the dress, much shorter than she’d ever normally wear, or the Scotch, but something makes her give herself over to him more completely than she’s ever done with a man before.

It was supposed to be just one night. But right as she’s thinking she wants more, he shows up in her office with an agenda. As the billionaire CEO of a company that’s engaged her PR firm, his demands just became her reality…and he desires so much more than just some attention in the boardroom.

Review

Oh boy, this book sent shock waves down my spine. All Kasie wanted was for one night to just let loose. Her engagement to her fiance was less that stellar and sort of boring. Her friend tells her she just needs one night with a stranger. Kasie normally would never think of such a thing, but ends up in the bed of Robert Dade. She leaves the next day and never expects to see him again until…….he shows up at a meeting with a new client….and he is the client!!! Stranger things have happened I guess and now Kasie has a real problem not being tempted by him. She needs to make a decision…Robert or her fiance Dave. The ending leaves you on sort of a cliffhanger and we await the next book, Exposed, Due out sometime in 2013.

The Pleasures of Winter by Evie Hunter

Published November 1, 2012 by Penguin Irelandthe pleasures of winter

The Pleasures of Winter is a steamy erotic story of romantic obsession and explosive sexual chemistry for fans of Fifty Shades of Grey and Bared to You.

When reporter Abbie Marshall needs to escape Honduras, a private jet carrying a Hollywood A-lister is her only way out. She has a ride home with Irish actor Jack Winter – notorious womanizer and all round bad boy. Abbie is shaken to the core by Winter’s blazing beauty and provocative mind.

After the plane’s nose-dive into the remote rainforest forces them to fight for survival, Abbie catches tantalizing glimpses of the complicated man behind the image. And the more she sees of him, the more he touches some primal part of her that she is determined to suppress. But after a devastating encounter with Winter’s shadow side, Abbie’s detachment is shattered.

On returning to normal life, Abbie cannot forget what happened, nor ignore the shocking rumours about the star’s private life. Her struggle to make sense of her torment leads straight back to Winter, who is just as obsessed by her. But if they are to have a relationship, Abbie knows she must embrace his hidden desires … and accept her own.

No longer caring about anything but their intoxicating love affair, Abbie is drawn deeper into the dark heart of Winter – and the secret that threatens to destroy everything …

‘Evie Hunter’ is actually two Irish authors who discovered a mutual love of erotic fiction when doing a creative writing workshop two years ago. They are delighted the rest of the world has caught up with them. Before writing The Pleasures of Winter, their first full-length novel, they co-wrote a number of BDSM-themed novellas.

Review

Abby works for The New York Independent, she was working on a high profile story when things started to seem not so good and she was in danger. In order to get her home safely, her editor pulled some strings to get her on a private flight with the one and only Jack Winter. The only snag was that she had to interview him…america’s golden boy actor…ugh..she was less than thrilled at the idea, but the alternative could be deadly. the plane goes down and Abby and Jack are left to fend for themselves until they are rescued. That is when Jack starts getting under her skin. She starts to fall for him, but Jack has demons and they definitely come out in the bedroom. Abby has to debate on whether she can live with jack’s demons or if they are too much for her. All the while, the love she has for him is painful to think of breaking. This was a really great book! The story was like Fifty, but also had it’s differences. Jack Winter is hot!!! And I know that I will reread this title again and again!

4Nobody But Us by Kristin Halbrook

To be published January 29, 2013 by HarperTeennobody but us

Bonnie and Clyde meets IF I STAY in this addictively heart-wrenching story of two desperate teenagers on the run from their pasts.

They’re young. They’re in love. They’re on the run.

Zoe wants to save Will as much as Will wants to save Zoe. When Will turns eighteen, they decide to run away together. But they never expected their escape to be so fraught with danger….

When the whole world is after you, sometimes it seems like you can’t run fast enough.

Nobody But Us, told in alternating perspectives from Will and Zoe, is an unflinching novel, in turns heartbreaking and hopeful, about survival, choices, and love…and how having love doesn’t always mean that you get a happy ending. Described as “beautiful, heartbreaking, and exhilarating” by Kody Keplinger, author of The DUFF, Nobody But Us will prove irresistible to fans of Nina Lacour, Jenny Han, and Sara Zarr.

Review

Two teenage runaways, you know that this will not end well. I must admit that this was another tear jerker! Will and Zoe are totally in love. Will has grown up in foster homes and he has now turned 18 which leaves him out of the system. Zoe has an abusive father and has many terrifying memories of what her father had done to her mother. Will wants to take her away from it all. And so he does. The two take off on one terrifying trek to get to the only place they think they can have a safe and satisfying life…Las Vegas. With Will’s anger running high, the two run into lots of trouble along the way. Not to mention the illegal acts that Will has done prior to his leaving. The ending comes with bad circumstances at the hands of Zoe. And she will probably never be the same. A must read for contemporary fans!

4Release Me by J. Kenner

For fans of Fifty Shades of Grey and Bared to You comes an erotic, emotionally charged romance between a powerful man who’s never heard “no” and a fiery woman who says “yes” on her own terms.

He was the one man I couldn’t avoid. And the one man I couldn’t resist.

Damien Stark could have his way with any woman. He was sexy, confident, and commanding: Anything he wanted, he got. And what he wanted was me.

Our attraction was unmistakable, almost beyond control, but as much as I ached to be his, I feared the pressures of his demands. Submitting to Damien meant I had to bare the darkest truth about my past—and risk breaking us apart.

But Damien was haunted, too. And as our passion came to obsess us both, his secrets threatened to destroy him—and us—forever.

Release Me is an erotic romance intended for mature audiences.

Review

The book opens with Nikki at an art gala opening. Her boss wants to use her as bait and shmooze a potential client…Damien Stark. Do you all see where this is going?? The two end up spending lots of time together and yes…there is lots of kinky stuff going on. The end result is many skeletons in each of their closets and Nikki is hoping for love from Damien which, he is not too quick to give. This book actually kept me on my toes and wandering where the heck the story would lead to next. A recommended read for any Fifty lover!

Alibi Blog Tour

Alibi by Annie Miles, John Byrne, Isabel Eckersley, Sorrel Provola, Twist Literary

Abigail Shelton is dead.

Spring Valley’s golden girl is found floating face-down in her boyfriend’s pool, hands bound behind her back, head bleeding, drugs and alcohol in her system. Her friends are the only suspects – and they all have reasons to want her dead. Everyone has an alibi, but no one is innocent.

ALIBI is a 4-part young adult e-book series. Each one-hundred page installment reveals the perspective of a different character: the secret love, the nemesis, the boyfriend, the best friend. As their tales unfold, we learn that Abby is not as perfect as everyone believes, but she’s not the only one with secrets to hide. This page-turning tale of suspense, betrayal, murder, and lust will keep fans of Gossip Girl and Pretty Little Liars up and reading well past curfew.

My Review

I was going around and around as to how I wanted to present this review? Did I want to review each part seperately? Well, I decided to review the book as a whole because if you start to read it, make sure you have the whole series. You will feel a need to read straight through to the end!

I really, really enjoyed this book! I thought it was presented in a very unique way. Each part is a different characters POV or their side of the story to what happened to Abby. They each have their own thoughts as to whom the murderer is. But, as you dig deeper in, you realize how twisted these characters really are and you learn more and more about each of them as you continue on.

Now, I must say that in each story, the day of Abby’s death is kind of e repeat in each part, but, it never gets boring because in each book you get a little more detail and it is told from a different POV each time.

By the end, I felt that I was very familiar with each character and I felt really bad for Charles. I felt that he was a genuinely good guy. I also thought it would have been really great to have a bonus chapter of Abby’s POV. The whole book revolves around her and I would have really liked to get into her head!

Fragile Blog Tour

Fragile by M. Leighton

Published April 2012 by M Leighton Books

Her heart, as delicate as glass.  His love, as strong as steel.  Can either survive life and death?

Hardy Bradford is an eighteen year old football phenomenon who has the girl, the school, the town and the future in the palm of his hand.  His life is all mapped out for him, right down to who he’ll marry and how he’ll become a professional football player.  It doesn’t seem to matter that Hardy would’ve chosen a much different life if it was up to him.  But it’s not.  At least not until his Miracle comes along.

The first time Hardy laid eyes on Miracle St. James, he didn’t know who she was, but he knew she was something different and that he’d never get her out of his head.  And he didn’t.  Now, months later, Hardy’s world is turned upside down when Miracle shows up in his class, stealing his heart and forever changing the course of his life.

Miracle’s sick.  Very sick.  And Hardy might be losing the only thing in his life that has ever mattered.  How much is too much to sacrifice for the one you love?  For just a little more time?  For just one more chance?  Can Hardy be the hero Miracle needs?  Or is it Hardy that needs saving?

Review

I must start off by saying that I LOVED the character of Miracle! She was able to see a little bit of good in everyone. Even if the people around her were awful. She used her misfortune to see the bright side of every situation and did not take anything for granted. The simplest things in life were mesmerizing to her.

Hardy was awesome also and I have to tell you that I had formed a teeny tiny crush on him. Just add another one to the book boyfriend list:) He was able to stand up for what he truly wanted out of life and actually give a part of himself to Miracle.

The storyline was great and the development of the characters was superb. I very much enjoyed getting to know all of them. Even the horrible ones! I would like to thank AToMR for bringing this awesome contemporary to my attention and I highly suggest that if you like love stories, then you pick this one up too!

Dead Perfect Blog Tour

Title: Dead Perfect

Author: P. G. Shriver

Publisher: Self Published

Pages: 230

MEL  My lifelong dreams never included falling in love. Graduating top of the class, going to college somewhere far away and starting a life in a place where my alcoholic mother could never find me were the first three goals on my list. Then the unexpected auto accident with Mother, after her regular doses of vodka, altered all of that. With her gone, my life and my perspective changed forever.   DAVIS   Desperate to find Joanie so I could break free, I returned to my old school. The search led me to her, my Aphrodite, a familiar lost look in her soulful eyes. Fantasies of her forced reasoning from my mind. I had to meet her! Once fallen, would her love for me survive the ghostly secrets haunting us?

Review

This book was different and unique. It kind of reminded me of the movie The Sixth Sense.

Mel had a really tough life with her alcoholic mother. The book starts out a little gory with the accident that took her mother’s life. This is the part that actually gripped me and had me needing to read more. It was a wonderful start that had grabbed my attention and had me swiftly moving through the book.

The meeting of Mel and Davis was really swoony! Davis is the perfect boyfriend, always trying to help Mel with anything she needs. Mel was always a good kid just trying to survive and move onto college to start her own life.

I enjoyed the different POVs between Mel and Davis. After reading Davis’s first couple of chapters, I was enticed even more to keep reading and find out more about him.

The ending felt a little lost. It was enough to have me keep reading just to find out the ending, but, it just seemed to be a little flat.

In conclusion, I would recommend this read for the simple fact of the relationship between Mel and Davis. Davis was a hotty and could easily be added to anyone’s book boyfriend list. Their innocence alone makes the book a perfect YA read.

About the Author

Born in California, and raised in Minnesota and Texas, P.G. spent her early years writing poetry and winning poetry contests, while escaping the drama in her own childhood by reading great books for children. Ever since her earliest days, she loved story telling. She wrote numerous short stories in High School and her early college years, continually trying to relive that first experience at the age of seven of seeing her name in print in the local newspaper.

P.G. sought her education at the University of Texas, where she studied English, literature, and Education. During the entire process of earning her BA and M.Ed, she never stopped writing and trying to be published.  It was during this time that her first children’s book No More Stinkbugs!  was accepted for publication by Castle Keep Press. Many of her stories develop from nature.

P.G. graduated college and began her career in education, another great world that offered real experiences to humor and delight through children’s books. She

watched children interact, bringing to surface her own experiences as a child and yet more events to write about. While teaching, she discovered many great books for young people, such as The Watsons Go to Birmingham-1963, Maniac Magee, So. B. It and many more. She is a fan of Dean Koontz novels, too, and loves reading fantasy and paranormal books.

P.G. has two young adult books published, Dead Perfect and The Gifted Ones: The Fairytale the first book in The Gifted Ones Trilogy. She also has several children’s books written under Gean Penny, her pseudonym.  P. Anything He Wants by Sara Fawkes

Expected publication: November 27th 2012 by St. Martin’s Griffin

Source: Netgalley

Goodreads|Amazon

First published as a five-part e serial novel, Anything He Wants inflamed imaginations everywhere and became a national bestseller.  Now available for the first time ever as a complete book, this edition contains never-before-released scenes and special bonus material. Don’t miss this erotic tale of  a powerful billionaire who always gets what he wants and the young woman who’s about to enter his exclusive realm–a world of glittering opulence and all-consuming passion, where she’ll explore the darkest reaches of her own desire.

Lucy Delacourt’s temp position isn’t quite her dream job but it pays the bills. The highlight of her day is riding the elevator in the mornings with a handsome stranger. Tall, dark, and sexy as hell, Lucy knows he’s way out of her league, but a girl can look, right?

Everything changes the day the stranger seduces her. Completely out of character, she yields without a fight, but she has no idea her wanton acts with a man whose name she doesn’t know will change her life forever. Because the sexy stranger is none other than Jeremiah Hamilton, billionaire CEO of Hamilton Industries, and one taste isn’t nearly enough to satisfy his need.  As the billionaire pulls Lucy deeper into his world of high stakes business deals and ruthless takeovers, he demands nothing less than her complete surrender.  But even as enemies seek deadly revenge against him, she’ll discover that her greatest threat is falling for her fiercely guarded boss…and yielding to her own darkest needs.

Review

Okay ladies, you know how we are always looking for that next fix after Fifty? Well, this book helped me get mine. There are a few Christian qualities to Mr. Hamilton and I could not help but think of our Mr. Grey several times while reading.

The one thing that I loved with this book was the little tads of humor thrown in here and there. The main character of Lucy is a tad bit snarky, but, also a tad submissive. She often wonders to herself if she could take much more of Jeramiah’s clipped tone and dominant ways. But, he has her under a spell and she soon is not able to turn back even if she wanted to.

Jeramiah…very swoonworthy! He is very dominant and ex-military which only makes him even hotter in my book! He has a tender side too though that only comes through when he is with Lucy. I need to say here that his mother is just plain aweful! She puts a major twist on the storyline when things finally heat up.

I have never read anything by this writer before and to be honest, I only first heard of her through Netgalley. BUT, I am curious if this series will continue on? There was a wonderful mix of lust, love, betrayal and action. The makes of the perfect book that held my attention through to the end.

Like all love stories, there is a cliffhanger ending. The writer leaves us with a little bit of a comical yet sad ending. I can only hope the next book will be out soon! Surely, the writer cannot leave us hanging???

Wellesley Wives Blog Tour

Wellesley Wives

by Suzy Duffy

From the Indie powerhouse publisher of Fifty Shades of Grey…

FUN, FEARLESS, FABULOUS FEMALES!

MEET THE  ‘REAL’ HOUSEWIVES OF NEW ENGLAND

Since the Real Housewives of Orange County made their network television debut, America has been enraptured by the fabulous, scandalous lives of wealthy men’s Botox-ed better halves across the country.

But it isn’t until now, with the September 27, 2012 release of Suzy Duffy’s Wellesley Wives [The Writer’s Coffee Shop Publishing House], that the well-to-do’ers of New England finally get their shot at the glory.

Following the escapades of the fictional and fabulous Popsy Power – a pretty, popular and insanely rich Boston society wife, and her best friend, the uber-fit and massively spoiled Sandra – Wellesley Wives is a celebratory romp through the lives of women who have, lose, and ultimately triumph over it all.

While their opulent wardrobes, expensive cars and handsome husbands may at first glance appear as picture-perfect as the masterworks that hang on their walls, the cracks in their gilded surfaces don’t stay hidden for long. Life is incredibly good for these ladies who lunch – until it goes bad, and this is where Wellesley Wives begins.

Facing divorce, infidelity, financial loss and more, Popsy and the girls traipse through the affluent suburbs of Boston, the Irish countryside and Caribbean yachts, all the while negotiating the blows they’re dealt with laughter, extravagance and a resilience that every woman, regardless of social strata, will recognize as her own.

“When I moved to Boston from Dublin, I realized that women everywhere really are the same,” says Duffy, an Irish native who is already a #1 bestselling author in Europe. “We all get hit with problems through life – many of which we don’t see coming.

Wellesley Wives was written to make women laugh and forget about reality for a little while. It’s white wine without the calories!”

A joyful, life-affirming story that celebrates female fearlessness and intelligence, Wellesley Wives looks at:

* The importance of female friendship and solidarity: why life is easier when you have someone to laugh about the ups and downs with!

* The ‘problem-free’ lifestyles of affluent housewives: does money solve as many problems as one might think?

* Handling divorce, infidelity and family problems with grace

* Finding courage in the face of the unknown, taking risks, and following your heart!

YA-Mature/New Adult

Review:

Okay, la swoon!!! I really, really enjoyed this book! It was a fun, fast paced easy read. I have not had the pleasure of reading book one, but, I was able to follow along with book two and understand exactly what was going on. There were a couple of situations where I wish that I had a back story, but, for the most part, I understood.

Love Never! Who wouldn’t love her? She is a band chick and all rock chicks are awesome. They tend to have a gruff attitude, where Neve seems the complete opposite! She seems quiet, shy and very self-conscious.

I am having trouble deciding which guy I love more??? Danny or Luc? Danny seems to be the love that Neve has always wanted, but, there is something there between her and Luc also. Something draws her to him as more than just a friend. Danny has tons of skeletons in his closet and it tends to be very hard on their relationship. Luc has nothing but love to give and would be so simple to be in a relationship with.

I really enjoyed this story and can’t wait for book three to come out. In the meantime, I need to get my hands on book one and try to catch up!

Emily’s House by Natalie Wright

Fourteen-year-old Emily Adams is flunking math – and life. But Emily has a secret, one that she has kept even from her best friends. Soon the ancient legacy coursing through her veins will force her secret to be revealed. Dormant for over a thousand years, an evil has arisen and this time, it will destroy anyone – or anything – that stands in its way.

Three teens embark on a dangerous journey and risk everything. For Emily, the fate of her friends – and her world – lies in her hands.

Travel with Emily as she unlocks the secrets of her Celtic ancestors as she goes on a mystical journey to the inner house and beyond.

Join the Journey . .

Emily’s Trial by Natalie Wright

Two years ago, Emily’s journey began. She learned the ancient magic of her Celtic ancestors, and became a modern Celtic Priestess. The golden torc, forged by faerie hands, is still wound around her arm, fused to her soul. She was entrusted with powerful magic – secret knowledge.

But even a Priestess can feel desire – temptation – and the quest for love. Will passion entice Emily to use her sacred magic in a forbidden way? Can new love take root in a world of nightmares? And will her friendships survive Emily’s Trial?

The Journey Continues . . .

Excerpt From Emily’s Trial:

The Apocalypse didn’t start with four horsemen, harbingers of the horror to come. It didn’t start with a plague, or pestilence, or even zombies rising from the dead.

It came slowly, and without warning. It crept up on people in the shadows, no more than a vague darkness that spread like an unseen cancer.

And it wasn’t set into action by a divine hand. A teenage girl was the catalyst for the End Times.

I should know. I’m the one that started it.

I didn’t plan to, of course. I had no desire to start the End Times, and I’m not evil.

Madame Wong taught me to tell the truth, and so here it is. I’m the one responsible for the Apocalypse. And this is the story of how I unwittingly unlocked the door to the darkness; of how a Priestess of the Order of Brighid, entrusted with powerful magic that was supposed to be used for the benefit of all humankind, unleashed a force that would destroy it instead.

And it all began with desire.
