Happy Book Birthday Balance by Janelle Stalder!

Balance (The Balance Series, #1)Balance by Janelle Stalder

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Janelle has done it again!! I honestly do not think that I could ever read something that she wrote that I do not like!

This is a paranormal romance about fallen angels and demons. I have not read a book in this genre in such a long time, so when I saw this one, I was immediately intrigued! I was completely sucked in from the moment I started it until the very end! This is definitely a one-sitting kind of book! You all have been warned, so I can easily say “I told ya so!”

My favorite character would have to be Caleb! Can I say “la swoon?” I really liked him from the beginning with his silent sexy smirk and his don’t care about anyone attitude! I loved how much he got under Viv’s skin before she had even started talking to him!

Oh holy son of a cliffhanger!!! Janelle is superbly good at these also and darn it, she has done it again! She has left me wanting even more after I had spent a whole day with these characters only to leave me hanging!!! BUT…She was nice enough to let us know that the second installment is right around the corner…which makes me INSANELY happy!!!

Discussion: Help! I am drowning in a huge TBR pile!

I am dying to know how others handle their TBR pile!

As a blogger, I receive tons of review requests! I do not accept all of them but I do accept some. AND then we have the blog tours that we get invited to and of course…they are so much fun that we just HAVE to accept those invites. But then…as if those were not enough…we have those beautiful ARC’s that are offered to us from the publishing companies and heaven forbid if you are a Netgalley or edelweiss user…then you have even more to worry about because you end up with 1200 ebooks on your kindle and are so overwhelmed and do not know where to start or even what to do next!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do you see my current problem?

GIF-joey-Matt-LeBlanc-my-god-oh-my-god-omfg-OMG-shocked-surprised-wow-GIF

As a huge book nerd (which I believe all of you to be also, otherwise you would not be here) I just have a very hard time saying NO!!! Especially to a book with a pretty cover! I like to see them on my shelves and hold them and maybe even pet them. (don’t judge)

tumblr_mc7deiCW6O1qe5ov4

I feel like I have so many books that I am very choosy when picking which ones that I will read. And don’t even get me started on the ones that I actually purchase….those never seem to get read:-(

These last two months of the year, I am going through my kindle and trying to read as many Netgalley/edelweiss books that I possibly can. I am embarrassed to say that my Netgalley reviewed percentage is only at 13%!! (this is very bad since it is supposed to be 80% people!)

damon

So, I am here to ask all of you…how do you keep track of your TBR pile? I feel like anything that I have not read by the end of this year needs to be gone through and be tossed out to get ready for 2017 and a whole slew of new books??

HELP!!!

Review: Sanctum by Sarah Fine

Sanctum (Guards of the Shadowlands, #1)Sanctum by Sarah Fine

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed this book! I liked the premise and the world building around the idea of hell. The topic of suicide to get into hell was a bit of a touchy one but I was able to read through til the end.

The characters were very interesting and I actually adored all of them. I really could not tell you which was my favorite because they were each unique in their own right!

There were some tear jerker parts in this book and anyone whom has suffered from depression or knows someone who has will feel for these characters right off the bat.

I do have the next book ready to go but feel that I need to take a breather after this one. Not sure if I can just plow right into it?!?!

Excerpt from The Keep:

I always thought I’d face death with more feeling. That maybe I’d go out in a blaze of fury. Or I would be relieved. Instead, I’m left waiting for it with an uncertainty of feeling that leaves me thinking I’ve already passed. That my soul is empty and just waiting for my body to catch
up. The absence of emotion would frighten me if I could feel. Without emotion what do I have to fight with?
I sink back into the cold rock. A light, summer rain falls around me, the damp seeping into me. I drift in my considerations as the night lengthens. The darkness outside matching the blankness inside, I’m left with nothing but time.

ARC Review: Rise of Fire by Sophie Jordan

Rise of Fire (Reign of Shadows #2)Rise of Fire by Sophie Jordan

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I could not wait to dive right into this book!!! I had devoured the first one and had to patiently wait for this one to be in my hot little hands. The sequel did not disappoint!

Luna and Fowler are right where our cliffhanger ending left us and the book wastes no time jumping right in! I was immediately engrossed with their surroundings. I was a tad worried upon starting that I would not remember everything from the first book but I enjoyed it so much that this did not present a problem.

I enjoyed the sequel just as much as the first. There is a constant push/pull between these two characters. Luna wants to be treated equally and not like she has a disability. She wants Fowler to know that she is strong enough to take care of herself. Fowler just wants to protect Luna since he has experienced loss previously and is so concerned with her safety that he is willing to do just about anything to keep her safe. I really enjoy their banter and the love they share.

I thought this was going to be a trilogy but was pleasantly surprised when I came to the end of the book and found out that everything was wrapped up so nicely. I very much enjoyed the dual POV’s and really enjoy Sophie’s writing! I cannot wait to power through more from her!

ARC Review: The Lovely Reckless by Kami Garcia

The Lovely RecklessThe Lovely Reckless by Kami Garcia

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I really have never read too much by Kami Garcia and I am a little sad by that after reading this awesome book!

I really enjoyed Frankie as a character and I loved her determination to protect those that she cares about. I also very much enjoyed Marco and felt saddened that he always put others before himself. These two are adorable together and I could have continued reading another whole book about them. I didn’t want the story to end!

My next favorite character is Cruz! I love how she takes Frankie under her wing to show her the ropes at a new school.

Being a parent myself, I thought that Frankie’s Dad was a bit harsh but I had to really think of what I would do in the same situation?? Everyone wants what is best for their child and you try to protect them as much as you can.

Overall, I thought this book was really good! It honestly was better than I had anticipated!

Blog Tour: The Sun Is Also A Star by Nicola Yoon

The Sun Is Also a StarThe Sun Is Also a Star by Nicola Yoon

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is the first book that I have read by Ms Yoon and I was very excited to be a part of the tour and receive this beautiful ARC! The cover is so pretty and I adore the colors used. They remind me very much of a bright summer day spent relaxing and just enjoying the weather.

Now, on to the good part…the actual story. I really enjoyed Ms Yoon’s writing style and the dual POV’s! I, personally enjoyed Daniel more than Natasha. There were times that I felt that she was kind of mean but I sort of understood why.

I really liked that the whole book took place over the course of a day. I am not a real big fan of “insta-love” but in this case, it really worked!! I LOVED the epilogue and closed the book with a big shining smile on my face.

This one is a must read for any contemporary fan!!!

ARC Review: Weregirl by CD Bell

WeregirlWeregirl by C.D. Bell

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I enjoyed this book but unfortunately, I did not fall in love with it…hence the three star rating!

The book started off great and really grabbed my attention! I started to get a little bored after Nessa’s initial change and felt like the story was going now where and then it picked up again at the end of the book.

One aspect that I enjoyed was that the whole book did not revolve just around Nessa becoming a wolf but it also involved a mystery surrounding the town and it’s tragedies. I really missed out on the romance in the book also. It felt like there might be something and then it just fell flat.

We are left with a cliffhanger and my hope is that I will enjoy the next installment better than this one which usually tends to happen for me with a series.

Thanks to the publisher for an ARC of this book in exchange of an honest review!
